Course aim
The overall aim of the Oil and Chemical Tanker Familiarization Course is to familiarize participants with a basic design of oil and chemical tankers and their cargo handling systems. The contents of the course covers safe operating procedures on board oil and chemical tankers, as well as the hazards involved in the handling and carriage of crude oil, petroleum products, and chemical cargoes. There is a practical component to this course for enclosed space rescue.
The course didactic materials are written in English and the course will be held in English unless otherwise agreed.
Course objectives
On completion of the course, the trainees are expected to be able to:
- To recognize the chemical and oil tankers and their specific equipment;
- To contribute to the safe operation of oil and chemical tankers;
- To take precautions to prevent hazards and respond to emergencies;
- To apply occupational health and safety precautions and measures;
- Carry out fire-fighting operations.
Entry requirements for enrollment
You have to fulfill one of the following conditions
- This course complies with the requirements of Section A-V/1-1, paragraph 1, Table A-V/1-1-1 STCW78 as amended and is approved by AMSA.

Certificate
On successful completion of the Oil and Chemical Tanker Familiarization course, the trainees will receive the Tanker Familiarization (Oil & Chemical) Certificate meeting the requirements of Section A-V/1-1, paragraph 1, Table A-V/1-1-1 STCW78 as amended.
