Electrical Engineering
The Electrical Engineering study program is one of the programs offered since the university founding in 1990.
The Electrical Engineering study program was initially accredited in 2002, after proving the compliance with all mandatory quality standards and general criteria, as set out by the legislation in force at that moment. Then, after the creation of the Romanian Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ARACIS), it has been evaluated and accredited in 2009, for 100 students.
As a means to support seagoing personnel without higher education studies who wished to get promoted onboard, a part time study program in Electrical Engineering was accredited.
The study program is dedicated to high school graduates who wish to pursue a career as maritime ETO or in the broad domain of engineering sciences, as an electrical engineer. The graduates of this study program may apply for master’s studies, which will bring about the ability to use concepts, theories and descriptive models to explain and interpret engineering solutions in electrotechnics.
The undergraduate Bachelor’s degree study program last 4 years, 8 semesters and offers 240 credit points. By graduating this program, students are expected to gain the abilities of an electrical engineer, such as the use of fundamental electrotechnics concepts, the simulation of running electrical equipment, monitoring and automation of electrical systems in use, design, exploitation and troubleshooting of electrical equipment.
WHAT YOU STUDY
The inter-disciplinary teaching curricula is compliant with the international STCW standards (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping), based on IMO (International Maritime Organization) model courses 7.02 and 7.04 and it is certified by the Romanian Naval Authority (ANR), in order to ensure the appropriation of the technical and managerial competences necessary for a successful ETO career.
Studied subjects: theory of electrical circuits, computer programming, electrical machines, electrical installations; they are meant to train students in the field of electrical engineering.
ADVANTAGES
International recognition
The engineer diploma (see diploma supplement) and the CoC for maritime electrotechnical officer are internationally recognized, thus enabling graduates to get jobs anywhere around the world.
Flexibility
After graduating the IMO courses and after obtaining the seaman’s book, students may start their onboard training. During the voyage students may participate to online courses and training activities by logging in on the virtual campus platform. They may even attend exams, should their voyage overlap with the exam session. They will also benefit from open session upon their return
Opportunities to study abroad
Many of our students choose to study one semester at one of our partner European universities, by applying for an ERASMUS study scholarship.
Alternatives
All of our graduates may choose to pursue a career at sea or onshore
Modern technology
Improvement of training facilities has been an essential part of our university strategy. In order to apply the theoretical knowledge gained during lectures students will use state of the art simulators.
Onboard training
The majority of students choose a maritime career. There are over 20 partnership agreements concluded between the university and crewing companies, which are meant to offer students the opportunity to complete their onboard training in a multicultural environment. Yearly, over 150 students perform onboard voyages.
Engineering training
According to the teaching curriculum, during the second and third years of study, you will have the opportunity to strengthen your theoretical and practical abilities, and to perform a training at the premises of various local companies, but also in Constanta Port, at the premises of partner institutions.
