Engine team and resource management

Course aim

The course is essentially a practical one, consisting of a series of exercises structured around the operation of a ship’s machinery installation and carried out in conjunction with an engine-room simulator.

Course objectives

To provide knowledge and skills to operate, supervise and monitor the safe operation and control of a ship’s machinery installation in accordance with provisions of section A-III/1, A-III/2, A-VIII/2 and B-VIII/2 of the STCW95 Code, as amended, the trainees are expected to be able to:

  • Familiarization with the use of instrumentation and controls used in the engine room;
  • Awareness of the need for proper pre-planing, the use of checklists and of the timescales involved in startup procedures;
  • Understanding and awareness of correct watchkeeping procedures;
  • Understanding of the way in which machinery units are interdependent;
  • Experience in identifying operational problems and trouble-shooting them;
  • The ability to make decisions, which promote the safety and efficiency of an operational plant.

Target group

Engine Cadet / Operational and Managerial officers, users of ERS systems.

Entry requirements

In accordance with the provision of Code Section A – III / 2 of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafares, 1978, as amended and IMO Model Course 2.07 „Engine Room Simulator”.

Payments

ETRM Course fee – 225 Euro (1000 RON). Payment cash or bank transfer in Euro or Romanian currency (LEI).

Learning Process

The training sessions combine theoretical and practical exercises. The course didactic materials are written in Romanian and the course will be held in Romanian unless otherwise agreed.

Assessment

The trainees’ knowledges are assessed by written examination at the end of the course.

On successful completion of ETRM course, the ETRM trainees will receive the Certificate of ETRM Course completion.

Information

The training program of the ETRM course has been approved by the Naval Authority of Romania.
